Christmas waders

Some time in the south of England over Christmas gave the opportunity to study some waders. Firstly on the Somerset Levels I had superb opportunities to sketch snipe and lapwing at the RSPB’s Greylake reserve. The sheer number of birds on the levels here was impressive with huge flocks of lapwing, starling,¬†teal and widgeon. Then on Boxing Day a walk on the Cob at Lyme Regis allowed stunning views of purple sandpipers feeding on the small beach near the end. I sat quietly on the beach and the sandpipers allowed very close observation, especially when the waves drove them towards me.
