Welcome to Yorkshire have launched a new leaflet featuring atists (including me) and galleries working in the county of Yorkshire.

‘Art and Heritage Trail – Yorkshire Coast and Countryside’

This Trial highlights the excellent art and heritage offering visitors can expect to find along the Yorkshire Coast and Countryside. The Yorkshire Coast and Countryside boasts an array of extremely talented artists and practitioners, exquisite and stunning galleries, craft centres, art workshops, museums, theatres, an abundance of heritage sites, fabulous examples of public art and a host of art and heritage exhibitions, events and festivals of all disciplines. The trail will appeal to the cultural tourist and to encourage them to visit, stay longer and spend more in our fabulous area.

Hawfinch in St Hilda’s churchyard, Ampleforth- 17th January

With the temperature down below minus 10c overnight, I was driving past St Hilda’s church, Ampleforth and noticed the unmistakable heavy outline of a Hawfinch in the top of some beech trees. I pulled over and had good views of this massive billed finch as it surveyed the churchyard probably attracted by the yew trees on which they are known to feed. I hope to have more sightings over the next few days. Hawfinches are very elusive though so watch this space…
