About thirty Waxwings were ranging widely around the central roundabout in Kirkbymoorside. The weather is mild 10C and they were spending their time flycatching in graceful aerial sorties. It is such a delight to see them in the middle of town combining a useful shopping trip with some top class bird watching. I made this quick watercolour sketch of a waxwing in a maple. The bird was no more than 15 feet away as I sketched from the car.
