With an invasion of waxwings taking place I knew it wouldn’t be long before they arrived here in Ampleforth, so I worked with my window open this morning, despite the frost and within an hour of starting a new lapwing composition I was distracted by the beautiful calls of Waxwings. About ten were in a cotoneaster about 50 feet from my studio window, but they were soon disturbed. My telescope is set up in the hope that they return. Here are some previous sketches of these wonderful birds made in 2010, may this morning’s flock return and stay long enough for me to do some new waxwing sketches.
