Redwings passing through

A flock of 50 or so Redwings were in the field in front of the house this morning, listening for and catching worms. With mild south westerly winds they are probably stopping off to feed on their way back to Scandinavia. I will listen for Redwings passing over tonight. We hear many migrating at night in October and early November. Most of these are moving south and west having just crossed the North Sea. In March we hear Redwings again as they return. They will have travelled great distances this winter to escape December’s extreme cold.
