Work in progress

Snipe

This is a watercolour composition completed on Friday. It is from sketches made near Coxwold, North Yorkshire last January. A flooded pool near the village provides me with regular observations of Lapwing and Snipe amongst some very attractive short grasses. I start the painting with thin washes for the water and then use dry watercolour and some gouache to give colour strength to the mud, grass and Snipe.

Snipe, watercolour and gouache, approximately 21"x 14"
